Grief, Rage and Restitution: The Myth of Demeter and Persephone

In this time when we in the U.S. are losing so many of our rights and freedoms, when we see cruelty and hate on the rise everywhere, wars raging, and children being deliberately starved in Gaza and Africa, every day we deal with sorrow, helplessness, frustration, and anger.  Stories and ritual can help us through hard times and give us a template for turning rage into action, grief to compassion.  The ancient myth of Demeter and Persephone speaks to us at this moment.  In ancient Greece, the Greater Mysteries of Demeter were celebrated not in the spring, but in the autumn, when the rains returned and the desiccated land turned green again.  Join us for a journey into this archetypal story reenvisioned for our time,  and renew our commitment and energy to bring out of this terrible moment a world of greater justice, equity and compassion.

MEET YOUR TEACHER

Starhawk

Starhawk (she/her) is the co-founder and executive director of Earth Activist Training. One of the foremost voices in Earth-based spirituality, Starhawk is an author, activist, and permaculture teacher and designer. Her 12 books include such beloved reads as The Spiral Dance, The Earth Path, and The Fifth Sacred Thing. Starhawk drew from 30 years of living collectively to write The Empowerment Manual: A Guide for Collaborative Groups, which is the basis for this course.
