Resources & Inspiration

February 21, 2022

A bit about who we are… All of our staff were first students, so when we tell you that our teachers make our courses special, we speak from our own heartfelt experience. And we’re thrilled to share that for the first time Sunshine Rose Claymore will be co-teaching our Permaculture Design Certificate course, along with lead teachers Starhawk and Charles Williams.

Here’s some background on who will be bringing your online classroom to life, and guiding your 14-week journey:

Sunshine (they/them) is an environmental scientist, permaculture designer, educator, doula and mother from Standing Rock Reservation. They are the Board Secretary of the Mni Wiconi Integrated Health Clinic and Farm, and is dedicated to the collective planning for the Mni Wiconi Nakicizin Woundspe, a learning space designed to embrace Lakota culture while striving to meet community needs. They are also the coordinator of our Regenerative Land Management program.

Our founder and director, Starhawk (she/her), is an author, activist, permaculture designer and teacher, and a prominent voice in modern earth-based spirituality and ecofeminism. She has authored or co-authored thirteen books, including the ecotopian novel The Fifth Sacred Thing, and its sequel City of Refuge. Starhawk also co-founded Reclaiming, an activist branch of modern Pagan religion.

Charles Williams (he/him) has been co-teaching with Starhawk since the beginning of Earth Activist Training in 2001. As well as being a permaculture educator and designer, he’s an experienced land manager, with expertise in areas ranging from broad acre forest and range management, ranch scale mechanical systems, nature awareness and primitive skills. Charles has also worked with livestock and wildlife, and has extensive background in surveying, infrastructure, managing easements and developing land policy. He currently lives with his young child on the unceded ancestral territory of the Mi’kMaq peoples, and is a part of The Deanery Project located on Nova Scotia’s Eastern shore.
